Lana is a 49 year old wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to all that know her. She loves selflessly and has always been the first to help anyone in need.
2 years ago, Lana was diagnosed with severe, debilitating, and life-threatening systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). Her disease is impacting multiple organ systems, and most severly involves her skin and lungs. Standard therapy is aimed at slowing the progression of the disease to the lungs and heart but there is no known medical or surgical cure for systemic sclerosis. All attempts at slowing Lana's progression have failed. In fact, it has been rapidly progressive. Therefore, she only has one option available to her; hemapoietic stem cell transplant. Without the procedure Lana is at high risk of not just death, but a slow and painful decline in health with repeated hospitalizations. This procedure is her final hope for any quality of life.
Because there is no known cure for scleroderma, Lana's insurance company has denied covering the cost of the medically necessary procedure. Lana has appealed this decision only to get another denial from the appeal board.
