Hello Section 11, Coaches, Referees, Board Members, family, friends, and AYSO supporters.
English Author, Ashleigh Brilliant once remarked, "if we could all hear one another's prayers, God might be relieved of some his burdens."
I am sending you this important note to SHOUT MY PRAYER ALOUD, because one of our cherished volunteers, who works in so many capacities for AYSO, is greatly challenged today.
He battles a stubborn cancer, that steals from, and diminishes him, each day, all while he infuses and builds up the lives of so many, through constant service to our Region, Area, and Section, while enriching the lives of our children.
I reach out to each of you, because as a 5 year volunteer myself, I have been deeply inspired by his leadership, his kindness, service, and his most steely resolve. It seems so much easier to sacrifice more of oneself to others, when we witness such selflessness around us.
May I take a moment of your time to tell you about this humble servant and energetic Section 11 leader?
4 years ago, Alan Schnitzer was diagnosed with head and neck cancer.
He went through multiple surgeries, procedures, tests, and treatments including radiation and chemotherapy.
In fact, he is currently being treated with chemotherapy as the disease has returned a second time.
As you might expect, the process has been devastating, exacting a toll on him physically, emotionally and financially.
Mr. Schnitzer is an Advanced Referee, and a National Referee Candidate, as well as being the Youth Referee Director for AYSO Region 159. He has been participating and energizing our Region, Area, and Section for almost 20 years!
He has long since had his own children graduate and move on from the AYSO realm, and yet he still devotes his time, tirelessly, thoughtfully, and joyously to our program.
Please take a look at this site and see the type of person who has made a commitment to helping all of us carry out the AYSO vision:
"Creating world class youth soccer programs to enrich children's lives!"
If you would find it in your heart to step up and provide some additional financial support, please do so.
If not, then at least take a moment and send some good wishes his way.
It is never too little to send your thoughts of care and support for those such as Alan, who have provided a strong and excellent place for our children to grow up!
And for those of you who are, or know, Regional Commissioners, or are in the referee leadership group in your Region, pay special attention. Mr. Schnitzer has developed a thriving youth referee program on Region 159, much of it while he has been afflicted with cancer.
He is more than willing to chat about this and provide input and practical assistance to give your own program a jump start, or a push in the right direction.
