Library for Maya Universe Academy

First of all, thank you for your interest in our project.
An initial spark of passion for making a difference in our community turned into a life-changing experience last winter when I along with three other like-minded friends went to build a classroom for Maya Universe Academy (MUA), the first free private school in Nepal. Maya Universe Academy runs on a unique and sustainable model where the parents contribute two days in a month volunteering rather than paying tuition fees for their children to get education. Last year, we successfully built a classroom for the children of MUA while also engaging in teaching special classes, making bracelets, cooking meals and various other activities. We were there to teach the little kids, but came back with valuable life lessons from the kids themselves. We documented the stay and work at MUA and produced a short documentary which can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCwI5c1a7vA. Analyzing the needs of the school and to fulfill the dreams of the children, we are conducting the second phase of the project.
This January, I, along with three other peers, will be traveling to Tanahun, Nepal to volunteer in building a library for MUA. Alongside, we will be exposing the children into the fascinating world of ceramics through hands-on workshops. Also, we will initiate the research phase to establish a ceramics water-filtration system, which we plan to accomplish in coming years.
Furthermore, we are committed in providing books, stationary and other required classroom and library materials to the school. We are currently raising funds to help us buy the necessary supplies for the new library. Since the funds we raise primarily determines the amount of supplies that we will be able to donate to the school, we rely on our well-wishers and supporters like yourselves for financial as well as moral support. We ensure that the entire fund will be used for the school since the travel and accommodation expenses are sponsored by Colby-Sawyer College’s Wesson Honors Department.
