Dominic's Medical Treatment

On April 29, Brian and Tina brought into the world their little boy, Dominic. Dominic was premature and spent some time in the NICU. After being home for only ten days, Dominic stopped eating and became very ill. Brian and Tina rushed Dominic to the emergency room where shortly after he was air lifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital. After running many tests, Dominic was diagnosed with Late Onset GBS Bacterial Meningitis, a rare condition that only about 2,000 births contract GBS a year and only 10% of those 2,000 end up with meningitis. Dominic also had a rhinovirus, an infection in the lungs, which for a premature baby can lead to phenomena.
Dominic was immediately started on antibiotics for the infection. Less than 24 hours after arriving at Rockford Memorial Hospital, doctors discovered a spot on Dominic’s brain that may have needed an operation on. He was again airlifted immediately to Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s hospital in downtown Chicago. Upon arrival and after a MRI, it was determined that the spot on the brain was too small to operate on.
Dominic has continued fighting the infection at Lurie Children’s Hospital since May 26th. He is on his second round of 21 day antibiotics and is showing improvements each day. Dominic has had multiple MRIs, battled swelling of the brain, and has fought hard. The battle is going well, but there is a long fight ahead. Brian and Tina have been told that Dominic will face long term developmental delays as well as battles with seizures and epilepsy.
Since Dominic’s arrival at Lurie, Brian and Tina have been away from work, living in the city with their 1-year-old daughter, Leilana to be close to Dominic. Brian and Tina are not the type of people to ask for help but our goal is to assist with medical bills, medications, and the long term care of Dominic. Brian and Tina have been doing all they can to manage everything but the hope is that this can help remove some of the excess stress that finances can bring during a situation like this.
