Growing up Simon and his brother Joseph dreamt of a better future. Moving from the slums of Katwe, Uganda they began on a journey to inspire others through gymnasts and acrobatics in their birth place of Tororo.
Self taught, self funded and self initiated Simon and Joseph have grown a vibrant community of performers in Tororo. At the centre of their practice are human statues. Visually striking, their work is a unique example of trust and connection and how community can create purpose and enrich peoples lives.
As a photographer I have spent my career working with grass roots communities that use sports and fitness as a way to engage and cultivate change and whilst they have strength in character, never before have I met such a community more in need of support.
It is my intention to visit Simon and Joseph in Tororo, Uganada to document their story but I also want to help them build a more sustainable future somehow and before going could not ignore their call for help.
Cut off from the things we find very easy to get hold of I am hoping to raise $5000 to go towards gymnastic equipment and educational supplies.
Lead by brothers Simon and Joseph who you can check out on instagram and follow to stay up to date.
I greatly appreciate your time and your kind donations toward this cause.
