Donna's Bone Marrow Transplant Fund

Donation protected
**This is for my friend Donna Hamilton, the following was written by her daughter Kimi and I believe this explains it all. If you can help in any way it would be greatly appreciated.**

"For those who may not know, my mother was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2009. She underwent chemotherapy at the time and did amazingly well. She remained in remission until Dec. 2016, just days before Christmas, when she had an unexpected relapse.

Since January of this year, she has been in and out of the hospital doing treatments. Thankfully, she is now in a full remission, but the tricky thing with relapse is that the potential for subsequent relapses is now exponentially higher. Chemotherapy alone may not be enough to keep her in remission, so starting today, my mom will begin a new journey.

For the next 4-6 months, my mom will live in Richmond where she will receive a bone marrow transplant. This will require her to receive high doses of chemotherapy that will destroy her bone marrow and then receive stem cells from a very generous and well matched donor. While this process is promising, it comes with many risks and is by far the biggest challenge in her cancer journey. With lots of love, support, and a positive heart, we hope to bring her home in just a few months.

To say my mother is my hero is an understatement. She is my giver of life, my teacher of life, my inspiration in life. I am always so amazed by her and her spirit. She is the kindest, warmest person I know, but also one of the strongest, never using her strength against others, but to make herself better to others.

As my family goes through this challenge, I hope that I can be wise enough to learn the lessons that this will bring. To keep my faith that my mother will meet my son and watch him grow up, to be there to guide me as I become a mother for the first time myself. I hope that I can be to best support to her and the rest of my family during this time.

Cancer can wreck havoc on the bodies of its victims. It can, and will, strike fear and worry into the hearts and minds of its victims. It can even take people from this earth too soon, but it cannot take away the LOVE. It’s the love that inspires its victims to fight for better days to spend it with the ones they LOVE. It makes their families sacrifice and try to move mountains because they LOVE. So today as she begins her climb of the biggest challenge life has brought her way, I will climb with her because she is my mom and I love her ❤️

If you took the time to read this until the end, thank you for listening to my story and if you feel it in your heart, please say a little prayer for my mom."
