Scott's Cancer Recurrence Fund

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to read this.  I was prompted to do this after reading a story about a gal who got drunk on her 26th b-day and got her $500 evening paid for by folks on here.  It seems like I have a better reason than that and here goes.  My son's name is Scott, he's 31 and he's had an interesting few years.  Back in 2011, he was diagnosed with stage 3 medullary thyroid cancer.  His doctors were fantastic and after a nearly 8 hour surgery, they removed a quarter of a pound tumor from his heart and neck area.  At the time, the company that he had worked for for 6 years had gone out of business and he was without insurance.  He spent a lot of money, worked hard and got that paid off.  He had three tumors come back in 2012, and he got those taken care of and was back at work in two days paying that off as well.

In 2013, he almost lost his right leg due to a rare defect called popliteal artery syndrome.  Usually this is not a big deal but his popliteal artery was completely disintegrated so he had to have an arterial bypass put into his leg and have palm sized parts of his calves cut out of both legs.  When this happened, he was forced into a governmental insurance program (he is self employed, he started a small business with an old friend after his initial diagnosis because it's something that he always wanted to do) that wasn't set up properly yet.  The insurance program he was put in does not cover his network (the second largest in our state) even though he was assured that it would.  When the program was finalized, his health network was not included within his insurance network and he wasn't allowed to re-enroll for a year.  So he has spent thousands of dollars on health insurance that is only covering 10% of his bills because someone else's ducks weren't in a row.  Annoying!  : )

His cancer has come back in 2014 and although we aren't sure what the plan of attack will be, the stress is there as are the bills again.  Scott tries hard to put on a happy face, stay positive and continue moving forward but it's apparent that the repeated crummy situations are wearing on him.  He has trouble sleeping and if pressed, will tell you that the weight of the last few years has been very heavy but that it's his burden to hold.  I worry that the stress hinders his ability to be happy, healthy and fight whatever is around the corner so I'm asking for help to lift the weight off my son's shoulders, even if it covers just one bill.  Scott is one of the funniest, hard working, friendly, most loyal people you will ever meet.  He's the kind of person who gives a homeless person a ride across town and jumps in a dunk tank for charity because the person who was supposed to do it didn't show up.  He would do anything to help a friend or stranger and he never asks for anything in return.  He actually won't ask for help with anything, which is why I'm doing this. : )  He tries hard to make his own breaks but it's time that someone gave him one - help me get rid of one of Scott's bills and it will make a world of difference to a guy who still remembers to hold doors for people just like his mother taught him!
