Over the past few years, I have fallen in love with video production and this year I have the incredible honor of being a part of one of Villanova University's Social Justice Documentary classes. My fifteen classmates and I have been learning the art of documentary video production as we prepare to head to Ethiopia to share the stories of the women and families we will be encountering.
We will be working with the non-profit organization, Jhpiego, whose mission is to "bring high-quality health care to women and families wherever they are”. Jhpiego uses innovative practices to put research into practice in vulnerable communities, developing creative, socially-conscious solutions to improve healthcare systems. They focus on strengthening the ability of countries to save the lives of its women and families while establishing a sustainable infrastructure for continued progress into the future.
We will be sharing the powerful stories of not only the safe surgery healthcare professionals at work in Bahirdar, Ethiopia but also the women who receive their necessary care. Our film will aim to show the strength and resilience of individuals who lack access to basic medical resources and healthcare.
Ultimately, the result of our work will be the creation of a short, poignant thirty-minute film. All donated funds will be utilized towards production costs while in Ethiopia and the post-production costs after we return to the states. If you would like to be a part of this powerful project, please consider donating!
