Are your parents protected? When my dad passed away suddenly at age 77, he thought he would be leaving my mom with enough money to pay off their house and car. Sadly, what he thought was a LIFE INSURANCE POLICY was actually an Accidental Death Insurance Policy. She received nothing and is now left with not only his loss, which is devastating, but the challenge of being financially insecure at age 72. Both my parents worked and struggled their entire lives and this is so difficult to watch happen.
After sharing this story with several people, I've come to realize that this is unfortunately a not-so-uncommon thing among our older citizens. They will receive something in the mail that looks very much like a life insurance policy, but the fine print gets lost and they pay a small amount per month for a worthless piece of paper.
Many of us have parents who are approaching this time in their lives. This gofundme campaign is to raise awareness - as well as some money to help out my mom. Even if you can't contribute, PLEASE forward this along to those you know and ask your parents to have their policies reviewed by a knowledgeable person BEFORE they die. This is not something we want to happen to anyone else!
If you are inclined to contribute, we ask that you please only contibute a small amount, but then forward this on to as many people as you can. Any money raised beyond our goal will be donated directly to the Dayton VA Hospice and Hospice of Dayton .
My dad was a great guy, and our parents and grandparents deserve better!
