A mother’s cry for help

Our friend, Régine Brutus is going through some tough times. Régine is a single mother and sole provider for her son, Malick, 11 years old. She has been battling stage 3 cancer since 2014 and recently received an unfavorable diagnosis. She has been in and out of the hospital over the past weeks. Those who know Régine, know that she is a wonderful and devoted mother, friend, sister, and colleague. She is cheerful, full of life, and unbelievably strong. Despite her health struggle, Régine remained a very independent woman. This year, during the pandemic, overcoming the constant physical pain, she started her own business making delicious Haitian meals. The business was starting to take off but Régine was forced to shut it down due to her health. Régine is now battling for her life while having lost her main source of income. As the sole provider for Malick since he was born, Régine is worried about her son’s future. She is the most selfless, caring mother, always putting Malick's and other people’s needs above hers. Despite the constant pain from the cancer, Régine has been to every soccer practice, volunteered at Malick's school events and so on. It breaks her heart to know that she might not be there to continue to support her son in the future. Régine was blessed to find a family that agreed to take Malik in should the unthinkable happen.


 As her friends, we want to support her in knowing that Malick will have the bright future she always dreamed for him and fought so hard to give him. We have started this fundraising campaign to start a college fund for Malick. The fund will be invested in the Maryland 529 College fund. It would mean so much for Régine to know that her son could continue to pursue his education, even in her absence.
