Gwen Tempesta’s Medical Fundraiser

Almost everyone these days knows someone who has had their lives disrupted by cancer. It can not only be a devastating personal struggle but it can be a financial one as well.
My dear friend Gwen was recently diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma). She has two nodes in her left breast and it was also found in her lymph nodes. Her cancer is aggressive (rapidly growing) and she will need to begin chemotherapy in April in an attempt to shrink the tumor in the lymph node, which is feeding the other nodes. She will undergo chemotherapy every other week for the first 8 weeks and then the remaining treatments will be once a week for 8-12 weeks. Gwen will be receiving her care at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
Chemotherapy is just the first step. She will be reassessed after the chemo is complete, and if she needs further treatment, she could be faced with a mastectomy and potentially more treatment after that. I would like to keep you all posted on her progress and prognosis through this GFM page. Please visit often.
Gwen is a mother of two who are both attending college. She is one of the most caring, nurturing and loving people I know, and anyone that knows her knows that she is not one to ask for help. That being said the medical costs can be staggering even with good medical coverage. At this point in time she will be taking a medical leave of absence that could possibly last up to 7 months. We will take one step at a time.
If you can help with a financial donation, we would certainly appreciate it, but Gwen wants all of her friends to know that she would also welcome a donation of your time for a visit, a meal or any kind of support during this challenging time.
