Multiple Myeloma Cancer, Expenses

Donation protected
After being diagnosed with a rare cancer my medical bills are growing.  I am helping raise my 5 year old grandson while he lives with me.  And my husband has lost his job and finding another job at 52 is really difficult.

My name is Robin, I am 50 years old, and I have been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, this cancer attacks your plasma cells, making them multiply and grow out of control. They crowd out healthy cells, including red and white blood cells and those that keep bones strong.  So basically my bones will look like swiss cheese.

Over time, plasma cells spill out of your bone marrow and travel to other parts of your body, which can damage your organs.

I have been taking chemotherapy treatments for six months and the specialists say a bone marrow transplant can prolong my life.  Instead of just 2 years I will be given the gift of 5 years.  The Specialist says the transplant is a cure..... but everything I've read says there is no cure.

The insurance I have through my company has a $10,000.00 deductible and I will owe 30% of the charges after the deductible is met.

The transplant requires me to be in the hospital for three weeks, and be out of work in a controlled enviroment for three months.   I have been working through all the chemotherapy, and I have the option for short term disability which will help, but this pays 60% of my salary.

The side effects of the chemotherapy have been mild but they do make me so very tired and sore with neuropathy in my legs and feet.  I am staying postitive but worrying about money is very discouraging.

To top it all off my husband has lost his job and I am raising my 5 year old grandson.

The stress of being the only bread winner in the house on top of all the medical issues is very hard I am not the type of person that asks for money from anyone but now is not the time to be prideful.  If I cannot get the money for the deductible I will not be able to get the transplant and I will die.

This picture is of me and my husband of 26 years during happier times.

Meet my wonderful grandson Carson (age 3 in the photo) he is one of the positive things in my life, he really demands a lot from me and it has kept me going....

Anything you can give will help.  I will keep you updated on my treatments and life as things progress.  Thank you so much!
