MACKENZIE DIXON IS ON THE STATE TEAM!
How Prayer, Hard Work and Determination Paid Off

Most gymnast dream of competing on a national level, but the competition can be stiff. Mackenzie (Mack for short), age 11 from Win Win Gymnastics in Odenton, MD was no different than her peers. The Prince George’s County native had big dreams for her first year as an USAG Optional gymnast. She wanted to make the state team.

The budding athlete had big shoes to fill, considering that her gym has been the state team for the past 3 years. She was not considered as a winning contender, because she only had two weeks to prepare for the prestigious opportunity. Her coach was not confident that she was ready to compete on this level. In addition, her parents had struggled to keep her in the sport after her father lost his job in 2013. It all came down to her faith in God, hard work, the continuous support of family and friends.

On November 2, 2014 Maryland’s top Level 7 gymnasts competed to win a spot on the state team that will compete at the 25th Annual National Judges Cup Meet in Montgomery, Alabama taken place in January 2015. Only five gymnast would qualify to compete on the state team to represent Maryland against the top gymnast from other states. The best gyms from all over the state of Maryland came out to cheer on their teams with the hopes of landing in the top 5.

Mack was able to secure her spot on the state team alongside 4 other gymnasts with a 3rd place All Around win. Against all odds, she will compete at her first national meet. However, the long, hard journey continues for the young athlete. Because she was the only gymnast from her gym to qualify her family is solely responsible for all of the travel expenses, hotels stay, coaches’ fees, entry fees and other costs associated with the trip. In the past these expenses had been divided amongst teammates. Mack’s family believes that she can get there with the help of family, friends, and community members. They are seeking partners and sponsors to help raise the funds needed for her 2014-2015 competitive season. This is truly an investment into the future of a young person’s life. No matter how big or small, every little bit will help.

Please consider helping Mack to reach her fundraising goal by December 1st. Her family has a short window of time to raise the funds for the national meet, so please check out Mack’s website.
