GVA-N Supports Puerto Rico

Last Tuesday, September 19th “la isla del encanto”, Puerto Rico was affected with the hurricane Maria. The eye of the Hurricane Maria with catastrophic winds for more than 200 km per hour (category 4, the second most powerful in the scale). The hurricane came in through the west and exited through the north of the island. It has been the worst hurricane that goes through this small island since hurricane Felipe in 1928. Puerto Rico is destroyed. As you know some members of our staff are from Puerto Rico and we would like to show solidarity and support with them, their families, and their country on this tough moment. The current situation of the country is heavy rain, flooded rivers and reservoirs/dams, many houses destroyed, no enough food and water for all Puerto Ricans, 100% of all houses without electricity and potable water, problems with telecommunications and many roads are blocked. It will take a long time for Puerto Rico to become the country that it was caused for this hurricane. For all these reasons, we would like to support and help people in need, so we can help Puerto Rico and families of our staff. It has been difficult knowing that some of our families don’t have enough food and some teachers haven’t heard about their love ones. We would like to share where our teachers are from:

Paula Rodríguez (Kindergarten Teacher) from San Juan.

Rocio López (1st Grade Teacher) from  Bayamón and Lares.

Jessica Miranda (1st Grade Teacher) from Bayamón.

Frances Maisonet (Assistant Principal) from San Juan and Carolina.

Tamaris Gonzáles (4th Grade Teacher) from Carolina.

Yadira Vidal (4th Grade Teacher) from Guaynabo.

Gerardo Collazo (Middle School & Music Teacher) from San Juan y Cataño.

Franchesca Santiago (Assessment Coordinator) from Ponce. Ms Franshesca is still waiting news from her family. She had no contact yet from anybody of her family.
