Guyshia's Road to Recovery

Hey friends,

On September 21st I walked into the ER with what I assumed was my Gastritis/GERD acting up. Next thing I know the doctors have me calling my next of kin because they are going to put me in a medically induced coma. I have a decision to make; let them do a tracheotomy (from which I may never awake) or let them put a breathing tube down my throat.

Clearly we chose the the breathing tube. After five days passed with no explaination for my condition, I was transfered to hospital number two. It was there that they finally gave my family some answers.

I was in septic shock. My heart, gallbladder, kidneys and liver were all compromised. Though they couldn't pinpoint the exact reason for the sepsis, but at least they could start treating me. After 10 days in a coma, I was finally awake and confused as all hell.

I was then transferred to hospital number three, where multiple tests, dialysis and surgeries were conducted. However, they had pumped my body with so much fluid during my coma that from the waist down my body was swollen beyond recognition. I was uanable get out of bed let alone walk.

On October 19th, almost exactly a month later, I was released to go home. I was expecting to be released to a rehab center since I still needed the assistance of two women or one really strong man to get out of bed or a chair; nor could I walk without the help a walker under the supervison of a physical therapist.

To make a longer story shorter, my insurance has approved for the the Visiting Nurse Serice of New York to send a Home Attendent three times a week, as wellas a physical and occupational therapist twice a week to my house for half hour sessions. They are anticipating me going back to work after the new year. That's three months without pay.

If you know me, you know that I am very stubborn and rarely do I seek out help when needed. However, after this incident I've realized that life is way too short.

I am asking for anything anyone can spare. All of the money will be going towards co-payments, groceries, rent/household bills, toiletries, etc. If you cannot donate please share with those you know as any help is welcome.

Donation or not, I hope you guys will follow me down the yellow brick road. The road that hopefully leads to me being able to not only get out of bed unassisted, but to walking again.

I'll keep everyone updated on my journey!
