Gus's Fight Against Thyroid Cancer

In November 2019 our beloved Bill "Gus" Goskusky was diagnosed with an extremely rare, aggressive thyroid cancer.  So rare in that this cancer only makes up for about 2% of all thyroid cancer cases in the US.  He & his wife Kelly have been traveling back & forth from their home in Illinois to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, a 5 hour trip.  Bill has just started his "fight like hell" campaign against this demon!  It's very hard to live in the IV area and not know Gus.  Born & raised in Utica he & Kelly are grade school sweethearts and have been happily married 30 years! They have 3 kids: Neil, Jorie & Grant and recently welcomed their 1st grandson.  Bill worked many years at Western Sand & Gravel in Utica and has worked the last  6.5 years at LaSalle Lincoln School.  He loves the kids, his co-workers and the school.  As  proud former LP Cavalier Bill has coached IV Youth Football over the years and been a coach, active parent supporter at Dimmick and LPHS.  He & Kelly are active in Crossbridge church in Peru.  They can be found as greeters welcoming new members.  Bill is perfect in this role as anyone who has ever met him knows he loves to talk & meet people!  And anyone that has the pleasure of calling him a friend knows that has a heart of gold, is so positive, kind, loving, giving and the kind of person who would do anything to help anyone.  A true "self less" human being. So many examples come to mind where Bill is often the 1st one to volunteer to help a family member, friend or church member in need. Whether it’s to provide someone with a ride, food or clothing or to lend help with physical labor or to simply visit with someone he’s concerned about. He was born with a desire to help people & it’s our time to rally around him!! The cancer is so rare that the Mayo Clinic team will continue to be his sole source of care.  Any generosity will help offset medical & travel expenses.  We thank you & appreciate all the outpouring of love and support being sent.  We firmly believe their is strength in numbers and we hope you join us in this fight!  God bless and thank you for being part of Team Gus!
