Gus Byam: Recovery and Medication Support

Donation protected
Gus suffered a massive heart attack on May 11. While being transferred to Calgary he had a stroke. They removed the clot from his brain but this then caused bleed on his brain and delayed further treatment for his heart. After that he had six cardiac arrests. After 3 weeks they did a viability test on his heart and it showed it was inoperable the only thing they could do was to implant an internal defibrillator. He was then transferred back to Lethbridge. In Lethbridge he was doing well until he got an infection which moved to his blood. He had a few rough days but has seen some improvement. Once he is medically cleared he will require extensive physical therapy either at St Mikes PARP inpatient program or at home (my house) for the brain damage caused by the stroke and brain bleed. He is collecting medical EI and has no coverage for medication. One of his new prescriptions alone will cost $2000 a month and once he is released from hospital I have only been able to secure 30 days emergency prescription coverage. It's going to be a long slow road to recovery to get our Gus back! He is conscious and aware of everything happening and still has his sense of humour! Really appreciates all the well wishes and love and misses you all!
