Guru Ram Das Healing Fund for Swami Dev Singh

Donation protected
UPDATE: April 15, 2019

Sat Naam, all.

It has been a few weeks since Swami Dev Singh was discharged from the hospital. Grateful to share this update with you.

Thanks to your kind and generous contributions, and also thanks to the kindness of one community member in the area with a nursing background, we secured some private home health care for Swami Dev Singh upon his release. This is CRITICALLY important as Swami Dev Singh needs support as his wound heals.

Although it has not necessarily been a simple road to healing, I am very grateful to say that here - at the 3+ week mark - Swami Dev Singh is managing well with his wheelchair. He drives himself to Gurdwara and does other small trips. He has some limited health care now through Dallas County which provides for his insulin and basic medical supplies. And the county plan also allows him to continue with physical therapy.

It will take a good three months for the wound on his leg to heal completely. At which point, he can be fitted for a prosthetic.

Your funds which support his healing are being carefully managed. We originally raised over $17,000 between this GoFundMe campaign, as well as fundraising conducted by the Gurdwara Nishkam Seva in Irving, Texas - Swami Dev Singh's home sangat. Our current intention is to reserve a good portion of that money for the prosthetic, while continuing to provide some level of home health support during this critical time of healing.

We also want to thank those of you who have done "in kind" donations, and arranged complimentary healing treatments such as acupuncture.

We are grateful to each and every one of you for your kind and generous contributions. I will keep you updated as we go.

Please continue to keep our brother in your prayers.

Hail Hail Guru Ram Das and heal Swami Dev Singh and the world.

Love and blessings, Ek Ong Kaar Kaur

UPDATE: March 20, 2019

Wow!!!

You all are so amazing. Collectively we have raised over $17,000 in a few short weeks to help Swami Dev Singh with his medical condition. This includes funds raised through this particular Go Fund Me Campaign, in addition to the local fundraiser hosted by the Gurdwara Nishkam Seva in Irving, Texas.

THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!!

For now, we are pausing the fundraising while we focus on next steps and health care for Swami Dev Singh as he gets ready to leave the hospital. So if you try to make a donation after March 20, we will not be accepting those through the Go Fund Me site. However, you are welcome to contact the Harbhajan Singh ji or Shabad Priya Kaur ji at the Gurdwara Nishkam Seva and make a donation to their fund.

Bless you and we will keep you posted as things progress.

Much Divine Love to you.

UPDATE: March 16, 2019

Our dear brother, Swami Dev Singh, is currently recovering from multiple surgeries that resulted in much of his left leg being amputated.

We are grateful that as of today he is stable, healing and in good spirits. The doctors have him doing physical therapy so he can learn how to become independent with his walker and wheelchair. He will be released from the hospital soon.

Thanks to your generosity WE HAVE RAISED ABOUT $15,000 FROM THE ONLINE AND LOCAL SANGATS to support Swami Dev Singh in his post-hospital healing process.

If you have not yet had a chance to contribute to this healing fund campaign and wish to do so, please take a moment to donate now.

We plan to wrap up this segment of the fundraising soon. Much gratitude to all of you who have contributed. Swami Dev Singh has been deeply touched by the messages, the love and the support everyone has shown him during.

And deep appreciation to the Radiant Body of Guru Ram Das who has moved through all of you to create healing for our brother.

Much love and many blessings.

Ek Ong Kaar Kaur, Harbhajan Singh, Ardas Kaur, Shabad Priya Kaur and all the sangat here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our dear brother, Swami Dev Singh, is in a critical medical situation due to complications from diabetes
Since February 21st, when he was first admitted to the hospital, he has had multiple surgeries to amputate his left leg. Each surgery has taken a little bit more of Swami Dev Singh's left leg.

This has been a critical and life-threatening medical emergency. The doctors are still working to stabilize his condition.

(After-sadhana photo with Swami Dev Singh and some of the members of the local Dallas community)

Swami Dev Singh is the definition of Chardi Kalaa. Even in his hospital bed he is cracking jokes and being thoughtful of others. The day I went to visit him, when he was scheduled for his 4th surgery, he offered me some of his personal food - almonds, and healthy crackers with peanut butter and jam. He carries that graceful spirit of service with him, even in this very difficult situation.

Swami Dev's medical situation is complicated by the fact that the rental home where he lived  caught fire at the end of November, and he has been in-between homes ever since. The last three months, he has been living in hotels paid for by his renter's insurance.

As of today (March 2), the medical plan is to stabilize his condition and then shift his care to a nursing home for a few weeks. After that, he will be released.  Where he will go and how his care will continue is the question we are trying to solve right now.

This Go Fund Me campaign seeks to raise $10,000 specifically to help Swami Dev Singh with the health care he will need to support his re-entry into day to day life. As you can imagine, he has a challenging road ahead - learning to navigate life with the loss of a limb.

The money will be paid directly to medical providers and will include expenses such as:

A home health aide
A prosthetic
Helping pay for other medical expenses related to his condition that we cannot predict at this time

Swami Dev Singh does not have health insurance. We have a team of people working to help secure financial aide through various programs to help pay for his hospital bills.

WE DO NOT KNOW if this money will provide all he will need in the weeks and months ahead. However, every dollar will help. And we thank you for your generosity.

This Go Fund Me campaign is not tax deductible, unfortunately.

If you would like to make a contribution for Swami Dev Singh through a tax-deductible organization, please reach out to Harbhajan Singh Virdee of Gurdwara Nishkam Seva in Irving, Texas.

This is the Gurdwara where Swami Dev has been part of the sangat for over 20 years and they will be doing a local fundraiser for his health care, and also to help support him with finding a place to live.

Swami Dev Singh has been a radiant presence in both the 3HO and Sikh Dharma communities since his first yoga class in Dallas, Texas in the early 1970s. All who know him have received the blessing of his kindness, humor, incredibly devotion and grace. If it is in your means to do so, please give something to help this sevadar of the Guru during this profoundly challenging time.

Thank you and please leave any messages for Swami Dev Singh below.

Hail Hail Guru Ram Das and heal our Swami Dev Singh.
