Greg Yurick Memorial Fund

All too often someone we love is taken away from us too early. Greg Yurick, a 33 year old father who leaves behind 3 young boys, Davin (14), Jarred (9) and Jayden (7).

In July, we brought Greg to the hospital because he couldn't breath well. The doctors found 2 liters of fluid around his heart. They kept him in the hospital and they drained the fluids.  The doctors did not understand how this had happed but they assured us he would be fine.

Greg started having more problems again in August and we brought him back to the hospital. The hospital then transfered him to another hospital where they said he needed to be drained again.  This small procedure turned into opening his chest. We asked why they needed to do this and they said too much scar tissue from the July surgery. The doctor told us he would be fine and he would not get anymore fluid back.  Unfortunately, once again the doctors were unable to pinpoint the cause of the fluid. End of October we went back again where they made him wait 3 days in the hopsital to tell us he needed more surgery. On November 3rd he went in for what would be his final surgery but my brother never woke up.

Early in the morning on Nov. 4th the nurse called and told us we needed to be in the hospital with him because he was not doing well. They told us his kidney and liver are failing. With family and close friends standing around his bed talking to him, hoping and praying, one by one all of his organs began to fail. After 8 hours of pacing, waiting and praying, our family was asked to take him off support but we did not. We told those doctors to work harder and that he has 3 boys that need him. Within an hour of hearing the surgeon’s suggestion, Greg passed away.

We believe he passed peacefully but we know that he did not give up with out a fight. Greg was a single father who gained custody of his three children in order to give them a life they deserved. He was selfless and always putting his children and family before himself. Even though he struggled for several years after his divorce in 2010 he felt blessed to be the person in his boy’s lives. Anyone who knew Greg knew his only goal was to provide a good life for his boys.

He went without so that they didn’t have to and taught them to help and respect each other the same way he was taught by his parents. Greg loved his children and tried as a sole provider to do everything possible to support his children financially; part-time real estate agent, free-lance contractor, surveillance system and sign installer. Greg did his best to support his children and now that he is gone, his family wants to ensure that his boys live the lives that their father worked so hard to provide.

Greg had no savings or life insurance plan so my mother and father had to pay for his funeral arrangements. We put this funding together to help with the funeral costs and to start a trust fund for these three boys. We appreciate everyones support.
