Hello Guelaguetza family,
Thank you all for the love and support we have received from you all this past week. We have been part of this LA food community for 25 years and know first hand the resilience and loyalty of the Angeleno. We at our restaurant followed all protocols mandated by our local government and health department since we first found out about the threat of COVID-19
Our restaurant family remained resilient and optimistic through the week. We chose to remain open for the sake of the dozens of families that financially depend on our small business being open. We chose to remain open because many of us have no choice.
And while these are harsh news to confront....We completely understand and agree that the health of the world is and should always be the priority.
Our family is pretty distraught, mostly for the team that makes our operation happen day by day…. We have so many families who depend on our restaurant and it’s the reason why we remained opened. These are the people who will be hit the hardest- our cooks, our servers, bussers, hostesses and dishwashers. The ones who need income the most.
We are a family-owned restaurant and unlike big corporations we don't have the financial means to take a hit like this. There’s been talk about relief packages and help from the government, but talk from politicians on TV is sometimes far different from the day- to-day reality for hourly employees and small business owners.
We just hope that there is a bail out for us like there has been in the past for the banks, the airline industry, and seemingly now the cruise line industry. Everyone seems to be getting bailed out during distraught times but small businesses.
We have started this GOFUND me account to support the everyday staff that makes Guelaguetza what it is - These are cooks, butchers, bakers, dishwashers, servers, busters, hosts, and cleaning crews. Every day hourly workers who work week by week to make ends meet. We also want to bring awareness to the reality of the food and service industry. We are a people first industry. We work on very thin margins. Our labor laws in California are some of the most progressive in the state and the amount listed here is what a two week pay period looks like for us.
We hope the community comes together during these tough times to help those who are most in need.
