Guatemala Volcano Disaster Relief

Thousands are silently suffering in Guatemala’s after the recent volcanic eruption that sent lava flowing into rural communities, killing thousands of people and displacing tens of thousands as their villages were buried in over 10 feet of ash and lava. These people can never return home. Many were also severely burned by the extreme heat of the falling ash. Having lost everything, including loved ones whose bodies were buried beneath the ash and lava never to be recovered, they are struggling with depression and suicide.

The Guatemalan government has asked Crisis Response International (CRI) to send response teams to bring in relief supplies and chaplains to console these refugee families. As a CRI volunteer, I will be serving as a chaplain, as well as distributing water filtration units, food, diapers, hygiene items, children’s books, and other essential life-sustaining supplies to those in need.

As a volunteer, I have to cover all of my own expenses. The funds raised will cover airfare, local transportation, meals, lodging, relief supplies, and deployment fees. Any donations above these expenses I will donate directly to CRI and fellow responders to enable them to also assist with relief efforts in Guatemala.
