Novas Medical Bills

Donation protected
Nova is my sister’s (almost) 4 year old Cattle Dog mix. Her birthday is actually next week, December 23rd!

Nova was adopted by my sister at 3 months old, after being rescued as a stray on the side of the road. Together, they took care of 13 foster dogs and helped them find forever homes (except for her foster failed sister, Ripley). Nova loves to help her mom, who is a dog trainer, by helping shy dogs come out of their shell, and making people laugh with her tricks.

Nova & my sister have had a really rough year! Back in May, Nova needed minor surgery due to an impacted anal gland. What was supposed to be a routine visit turned into multiple visits, a changed diet, and over a thousand dollars in bills. In July, my sister was rear ended and her car was totaled. Luckily the dogs weren’t in the car and her injuries were not severe, but she was left without a car and some lasting neck & back pain. Coupled with the accident and COVID, my sister decided she was moving the girls back to Maryland. She is currently starting her own dog training business to help owners with dogs who have behavioral issues.

Last night, December 18th, Nova began vomiting and could not keep down food or water. My sister knew something was wrong and when Nova projectile vomited, she rushed her to the urgent vet. During the exam, it was discovered that Nova’s liver enzymes were extremely elevated, indicating the possibility of ingesting a toxic substance. She was transferred to the emergency vet where she received more fluids and pain meds. After four hours, her liver enzyme was still incredibly high but had come down slightly. My sister was able to bring her home to monitor her.

There is never a good time for a pet to become ill, but this is especially hard. Between an out of state move, the car accident, Nova’s other health issues, and starting a new business, this is extremely financial taxing. The medical bills have exceeded $1200 and we are still worried about follow up care and any continuing issues with her liver.

I know this is a hard year for everyone, but I would love to help my sister and Nova. This would be a great birthday/Christmas present - and to help relieve some stress for someone trying to build a new business during a pandemic.

Any funds raised will go directly towards Nova’s currently medical bills and follow up care. Once we know how things look for her future, any unused funds will be donated to a local animal rescue.
