Liz & Ruben Varela opened Liz's Bird Shop in 1996 after raising birds for many years. They wanted to offer the companionship birds & other small animals provide to members of the Chicagoland community. After recognizing the value of possessing extensive knowledge of the pet industry, Liz's Bird Shop eventually morphed into Liz's Pet Shop & began supplying super premium cat & dog food & treats, as well as a diverse assortment of pet products. The Liz's Pet Shop staff also began offering guidance & encouraging pet owners to reexamine how they feed & care for their animal family.
When Liz's Bird Shop opened to the public more than two decades ago, one to two customers were visiting each day. Three storefront moves later, Liz's Pet Shop now calls the corner of Chicago Ave & Western Ave home & welcomes more than 1,000 people each month.
Liz's Pet Shop was founded on the belief that animal health is critical to quality of life & doing everything possible to protect animal welfare is of utmost importance. The business has adhered to this mission & has become one of the most well known & respected businesses in the industry.
