Staying Above Water

Hello - My name is Alan Staats and I have made it through the Covid Pandemic. So far. I am shifting my focus (so to speak) to scanning legacy negatives and slides and making large format prints for sale and exhibition of the resulting scans as well as the digital collections I have created. The primary reason for this shift in direction is the need to increase my revenue stream away from actively shooting and traveling constantly. The enormous cost, both monetarily and chronologically, of earlier uninsured health issues means that a consistent revenue stream is not simply a matter of comfort but a matter of life-time necessity.  That last is not the indictment of a dire future; I love photography and have loved it, literally, all my life. 

 

 

Nevertheless, this is not an easy thing to do from both a business and spiritual standpoint; it is humbling, to say the least to ask for help through GoFundMe. With the economy being what it is, simply printing and marketing my work is difficult and costly; add tax liabilities (whether fair or not) and the need for financing grows daily. I've made substantial equipment purchases thanks to donations made here and privately to increase my capabilities, with the belief that my creative and marketing efforts will prove fruitful.
