Hello All! My name is Curtis ONeal. I am a graduating senior double-majoring in Political Science and Spanish at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA by way of New Jersey and Ohio. I am finally in my last year of school studying International Relations. I humbly come to you and ask for your assistance in achieving the goals I set to accomplish when first arriving 3 1/2 years ago: graduate from college on time and attend graduate school to further my studies.
I came Morehouse as a non-traditional student. Growing up too impoverished to afford a dorm on-campus, I commuted two hours to school catching several buses and trains from Norcross, GA to Morehouse in downtown Atlanta. Fortunate that I was attending the college of my dreams, I made no complaints. I happily slept on the floors of friends near campus that were willing to house me until I gained the necessary employment to afford off-campus housing in my latter years of college. I achieved this all while maintaining a competitive GPA, serving as a school Senator in student government, winning multiple National Parliamentary Debate Championships as a top debater on one of the most successful teams in the school's 147 year history, and becoming President of Pi Kappa Delta, the team's debate fraternity.
I was raised to work hard and never make excuses. I will never use my circumstances to justify negligence or lethargy; however, I have grown to appreciate what is at stake at this juncture in my life. Similarly, I am learning the value in acknowledging when I am overwhelemed and respecting the gravity of challenges presented to me. I am also learning that asking for help doesn't indicate weakness. Overall, my goals are too elusive for one to be paralyzed by pride, hubris and ego.
Though I currently work two jobs, it is still not sufficient to afford GRE exams ($200), Graduate School applications ($75-$150 per application), rent, and food while maitaining high academic competency (This does not include graduation fees that cost up to $500). I fear that my efforts currently will not suffice to achieve these outcomes. Your donation would greatly contribute toward these efforts. I am confident that your help, in conjunction with my continued hard work, I will overcome my final obstacles and achieve my goals to finish my long journey at Morheouse College.
