Flood waters remain days after evacuating.

I am a teacher here in West Houston.  I was spared by Harvey, but I have many friends not so fortunate.  Few have lost more than my friends, the Griffiths.
I have worked side by side with Amy Griffith in our nearby school for years. It is at school that she brings more joy to children and colleagues than you can measure.  She and her husband Eric,  children Matthew &Ryan,  and dogs Wrigley & Lucy, are a beautiful, fun-loving, community-minded family trying to pick up the pieces.  Amy is a special education teacher and Eric is a coach and landscape designer.  The boys are active in their schools, neighborhood and in sports and are former and future students of mine.
During the release of the resevoir waters, they waited on the second story of their home until daylight, then braved the chest deep floodwaters. With only the clothes on their back, they carried their 16 year old dog, and held on to their children until family could reach them on dry land.
One recent trip back in by boat to salvage resulted in a dangerous capsizing in the toxic waters. Another tragic loss of treasured keepsakes has taken a toll. They are still waiting to get back in to assess and collect anything not ruined, all the while their house sits in fetid water. They are overwhelmed and held up by the red tape of  relief, and the fact they did not carry flood insurance.  They hold onto hope, that they can eventually move home. The Griffiths had over 5’ of floodwaters in their beautiful home and almost two weeks later still have over 3’ standing inside.  Eric has lost valuable tools for his trade and their cars are submerged.
Their immediate future is as murky as the waters. They wonder about the long road ahead of remediation, cleanup and reconstruction, all while trying to find a temporary place to call home.  It is difficult to imagine how devastating an event like this is unless you’ve seen it firsthand.  Please help them try and rebuild their lives while they work to rebuild their home.
While accepting help is not easy for this private family, they have allowed me to tell their story and raise funds in their name to rebuild their lives.  They need so much. I am heartsick by the tragic events that Hurricane Harvey has brought to their family and neighbors. Your support, no matter the size is appreaciated more than you know.  Our community is suffering, but strong. We know there are many in need and our humble friends appreciate your donation and prayers.
ALL donations will be given to the Griffith Family directly.
