Dear Friends and Family,

Our beloved father, as some of you may know him affectionately referred to as “Holmes” or “BG” (Big Greg), was diagnosed with Mesothelioma.  For those of you who don’t know, Mesothelioma is a very rare and aggressive form of cancer that develops in the lining of the lung and to date, has no cure.  It is caused by exposure to asbestos and with our Dad being in the construction business he was exposed to this without ever knowing the dangers.

He was diagnosed on Dec. 27, 2017 with biphasic pleural mesothelioma, which is a mix of epithelioid and sarcomatoid cells.  By having the sarcomatoid cells mixed in, it makes the cancer spread faster and provides fewer treatment options.  He has been fighting hard ever since we were hit with the news.  He first underwent chemotherapy immediately after being diagnosed, which made him so sick and weak.  Then after 3 long months, we found out that the chemo was not working and that the cancer had spread.  He was not a candidate for surgery due to the type of mesothelioma he has, so our next option was a clinical trial.  This trial had great reviews and we thought this would be the answer to our prayers.  After a few months on this new trial we just received news that the clinical trial did not work and that the cancer has doubled in size and is continuing to spread. This was absolutely devastating news, but our father is still in high spirits (even with the amount of pain he is in) and is still willing to fight so that he can see his current and future grandchildren grow, walk his daughter down the aisle, and spend as much time as he can with his wife of over 40 years.  What might surprise everyone the most (but not the ones that know our father) is he would really like to get better so he can go back to work.

Our father is one of the hardest working people you will ever meet and is someone who has and will help anyone in need. He truly is a Hero in our eyes especially for all he has done for our family and how he continues to fight through this difficult time.  It has always been hard (almost impossible) for him to ask for help, but after 5 months of being out of work, he is finally ready to reach out for it.

Any donation is greatly appreciated and if our dad does get better, I know he will try and pay each and every one of you back for your kindness.

Thank you all for your support,

Jeff, Matt and Cheryl McIntyre
