Greg's Wake

Two weeks ago my little sister and I found out that our Father, Greg Matthews, had suddenly passed away whilst on a holiday in the Phillippines. A year and a half ago our Mother passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. As you can imagine the shock of this and the organising of many complicated things around this has made me unable to work for the past two weeks, and I don't get paid for my days off. I simply want to hold a wake to honor and celebrate the life of this man I called my Dad and my good friend. The plan was to hold it at the Montmorency RSL, a local RSL my parents frequented in the green and peaceful Montmorency, and the same place we held Mum's wake. The cost to hold a catered function with our own area that fits up to 100 people is $1000 and this includes catered food, our own balcony, TV screens to display photos and space for one of Dad's favourite blues bands to play live. Due to very large expenses and unexpected traumatic loss making me unable to earn money recently, I am unfortunately unable to pay the $1000 fee which is due this Monday, to hold Dad's wake on Thursday. I have already turned to his sisters for help funding the wake but they have disappointingly said they don't wish to. My friends & community are my real family and if 20 friends of Greg and myself donate $20, that's enough to hire the space for the wake and any extra money can go on a bar tab for everyone and also help with other expenses the complications of this have caused. I don't like asking for help but I know I am surrounded by kind souls that would like to help me honor and celebrate my Father's life properly. Thank you so much. - Zac & Greg Matthews
