On January 3rd of this year (2018), I experienced a completely unexpected, life-altering medical event. I was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure (ESRD). My kidneys are no longer functioning and without on-going kidney dialysis, I will die (within about 3 weeks). The sudden onset of this disease has left me and my family in shock and we are striving to pick up the pieces.
Until I receive a kidney donation, I will be receiving dialysis 4 hours per day, 3 times each week, indefinitely.
Because of the sudden onset of this disease, the frequency of dialysis and the side effects of dialysis, I find myself unable to work. After 21 years in the same profession I have lost my ability to earn a living and my wife, who is self-employed, has lost significant income caring for me. My kidney disease has placed an unbearable financial burden on our family. Whatever money we’ve been able to save is now gone. Losing my income and my wife’s loss of income has taken a huge financial toll. The bills are mounting. The emotional toll of the bills is “piling on” to the physical stress of the disease. This has been the hardest obstacle our family has ever faced. The funds will be used to cover medical expenses not covered by insurance and to help cover my loss of income. Simply put, these funds will provide a way for my wife and me to live.
We continue to pray for the miracle of a live kidney donation. Words cannot express what this would mean to me and my family.
