My brother Greg Harris moved to Colorado the beginning of April, looking forward to a new start with his sweet puppy Lucy. He bought a travel trailer, got a new job and loving the cooler weather and being near his Colorado family. On May 23rd, he drove himself to the hospital in Brighton, Colorado which is only 1.8 miles from his trailer, thankfully because he was having bad stomach pains. It took me until the next morning to find him and he had been admitted with pancreatitis. The treatment for that was good and he thought he was going to leave the hospital in a couple of days, but now here we are on June 3rd and he is in ICU. On May 26th the hospital called to tell me that they had moved him to ICU where they put him on a vent because he couldn't breathe and couldn't tolerate the bipap or his cpap machine. He has severe sleep apnea but couldn't use the cpap due to severe claustrophobia. Coming to altitude just pushed his lungs to capacity and now he has to face the problem that lies ahead. Since the vent, we felt like it was a better option for him to have a tracheostomy so on Wednesday they put the trach in but then last night the whole thing came off of his throat and they had to go back in, put in a bigger one and also 2 chest tubes because he developed a pneumothorax. He has a long road ahead of him and my brothers and I are having to make some short term long term decisions. I believe he is receiving Medicaid so hospital bills should not be an issue but he has some expenses, not be it huge as far as I can tell but we don't want him to worry about them while he is recovering and out of work. We will have to store his trailer, make his car payment, car insurance and phone bill along with a couple of other bills that need to be paid. The amount we're asking for could go lower but until he can communicate more clearly, this is just an estimate. So many people have been praying for him and several suggested that I set up an account for him so humbly we go. Any little thing will help. I know he wants to get well and get healthier and wants to stay in Colorado so we are trying to keep him where he can get back to living without having to move away.
