Ride across the US for Climate Justice

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Lily Morse (they/she) and I’m raising money for the climate justice movement by riding my bike across the US. I’m a 16-year-old climate justice activist, Executive Director of the Green Schools Campaign, and athlete from Bozeman, MT, and Long Beach, CA. This summer I will attempt to ride my mountain bike 2,745 miles following the Continental Divide across the US, from Banff, Canada to the Mexican border, climbing over 220,000 vertical feet (equivalent to summiting Mount Everest from sea level 7 times), on a gravel cycling route called the Tour Divide. My awesome dad, Greg Morse, will join me! Through this journey, I want to raise money for climate justice, build power and awareness for the youth climate justice movement, push for more women, non-binary, and queer people in cycling and the outdoors, and go on an amazing adventure along the way! I’m so excited!

I became one of the first female Eagle Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America program with the 2020/2021 inaugural class. I hope to trailblaze the way for people historically excluded in this program. I also am a Climate Reality Leader and organizer with the Bozeman chapter of the Sunrise Movement.

Some of my favorite places include Joshua Tree, Catalina Island, and the Grand Canyon. In my free time I love to spend time with my friends and family, knit an endless number of scarves, watch TED talks, comedies, and Marvel movies, and listen to the Beatles and my favorite podcast, Radiolab!

 What is the Tour Divide?

The Tour Divide is a 2,745 mile gravel, single-stage, self-supported, ultra cycling ride from Banff, Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico (on the Mexican border). Lily and Greg will leave from Banff, Canada in June riding southbound, following the Continental Divide through Canada, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.

What is the Green Schools Campaign (GSC)?

-The GSC is an international youth climate justice organization that develops student-powered initiatives to transition educational institutions to 100% clean, renewable energy and progress community sustainability.

-We’re building the next generation of community climate justice leaders, from national to local campaign leaders we are 100% youth led.

-We have active campaigns in Long Beach Unified School District (CA), Lodi USD (CA), Leander Independent School District (TX), and more! These student led local campaigns have engaged thousands of youth and made immense progress. They’ve hosted town halls, tree plantings, marches, attended lots of school board meetings, and met with key decision makers and implementers in the process of transitioning their districts to renewables.

What will the money raised be used for?

Supporting the climate justice movement, specifically intersectional and youth-focused organizations. The Green Schools Campaign will likely receive significant funds. Some possible uses for the GSC include:

-Supporting local campaigns with funding to break down any financial barriers that may prevent bringing the GSC and climate justice to their community.

-We are a 100% volunteer organization from national to our local campaign leaders, we pour tens of thousands of hours into the GSC because of our passion and commitment to climate justice. We would like to start compensating our tireless volunteers for their time and dedication as well as enable a larger community of students to participate that may not have the means to, via a grant process.

-Internal costs like marketing, website hosting, zoom, etc.

-And more!
