Green Family Support Fund

To say 2017 has been a difficult and challenging year for the Green family would be an enormous understatement.   On March 14th, Stuart & Leslie Green’s only child, London, had a complicated 11-hour open-heart surgery at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.  His 4th birthday was celebrated at UCSF with family and hospital staff.   Five weeks later the Green family was finally able to head home.

Unfortunately, in late May/early June, London developed a serious infection that required re-admission to UCSF and another surgery to remove some infected internal pacemaker leads and wires.  A week and a half later, they once again headed home, hoping that London would be on a solid path of recovery.  That hope was short lived, as two weeks later London developed a fever and a respiratory infection.  His condition quickly deteriorated and he was intubated several days later, his condition becoming “touch and go” as he developed tears in his lungs due to the high pressures of the ventilator.  After being on the ventilator for about a week, London slowly began to improve.  He was welcomed home several weeks later.

Over the next several months, London’s strength slowly started to improve only to have a nasty infection reappear in mid-November.  On November 15th, London was once again hospitalized at UCSF. The next day, he was intubated.   His condition was extremely serious as the infection was now in his heart and on November 18th he underwent his second open-heart surgery of the year, this one described by the doctor’s as “very high risk”.  As we write this, London is slowly recovering.  The Doctor’s have indicated that he will need to be hospitalized at least six weeks.  Our hope is that he can be home for Christmas.

As if all that wasn’t enough…in early 2017, a pipe broke in the Green’s house and flooded their bathroom, hallway and kitchen.  All of this while Stuart is still recovering from his own 2016 surgeries and chemo treatments for rectal/colon cancer.

Stuart and Leslie have faced all of these challenges courageously and with a positive outlook, sustained by faith, family and friends.  Our family is so grateful for all the prayers and words of support that we have received from so many.

As one could imagine, even though they have excellent health insurance, the costs associated with these challenges have been significant, including loss wages, doctor and hospital deductibles, prescriptions, lodging, parking ($32/day at UCSF), etc…  We are looking to raise at least $5,000 for this young family.  Thank you in advance for your gifts and support.

Hopefully 2018 will bring better days for Stuart, Leslie and London.  Please keep them in your prayers.
