Great Lakes Plastic Removal

Hi there, we are 2 students from the University of Western Ontario and we are asking for your donations to help us start Eco-Lakes.  We are creating Eco-Lakes in hopes of cleaning up the Great Lakes by removing waste and plastic pollution from the waters and surrounding shoreline.

Between Canada and the United States, we discard 22 million pounds of plastic into our Great Lakes every year.  Unlike the Ocean, which gets flushed out by global currents, our lakes are less diluted.  Research has shown that the concentration of plastic in areas of the Great Lakes are equal to or greater than those reported in the Ocean.

The Great Lakes are home to 21% of the world’s fresh water and are being overwhelmed year after year with waste, making areas unsafe to eat fish out of, and even swim in.  The Great Lakes and surrounding waterways are a critical part of life for the 107 million Canadians and Americans in surrounding areas, providing beautiful beaches, fishing spots, shipping routes and more. They are also home to more than 3,500 species of plants and animals that are under threat due to severe pollution.

The pollution created from previous generations as well as our own will not only have negative effects on our lives, but the lives of future generations who will not be able to enjoy the lakes as we do now.

For every sale Eco-Lakes makes, a large portion of the proceeds will go towards funding our cleanup operation. As a hopeful new company with such an urgent objective, any and all donations will be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.
