Grassroots Defibrillators - All Clubs
Following the devastating news of West Brigford Colts Dylan Rich’s sad passing after a cardiac arrest while playing in an FA Youth Cup, we want to help Nottinghamshire Grassroots clubs that don’t have defibrillators to raise funds.
Along with Christian Eriksen, collapsing on the pitch during the recent Euros match between Denmark and Finland and Fabrice Muamba in 2012, we know the importance of having a potentially life-saving defibrillator readily available. Although these are very rare incidents on the football pitch, cardiac arrests can happen to anyone at any time – not just fit footballers. Every week in the UK 12 people aged under 35 die from a sudden cardiac arrest.
It’s crucial that CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is started straight away followed by the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator), and it’s a technique everyone should know how to do.
As members of Clifton All Whites FC we understand the difficulty in finding funds for a defibrillator which is why we want to help out where we can. Defibs start from around £850 and at the high end around £1,900.
Having a defibrillator nearby is important because it substantially increases the patient’s chance of survival during a cardiac arrest. When a person suffers from sudden cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by 7-10% for each minute that passes without defibrillation.
