Grant 100 Wishes For Autistic Children

Our Mission
Since COVID-19, children on the spectrum have had a particularly difficult time adapting to the constantly changing environment.  Many children with ASD have experienced regressions due to changes in a routine triggered by the COVID-19 lockdowns.  Some have forgotten how to feed themselves properly, or lost skills that have not been reinforced due to canceled therapies and onsite schooling.  Children on the spectrum have also struggled to continue developing critical social skills due to the isolation.  These are just a few of the negative impacts COVID-19 has had for children on the spectrum.  Acknowledging this urgent need, our family created AutismWish as a way to assist autistic children by providing them with much needed sensory and therapeutic items for at-home support.

Our Funding Goal
We have set up an ambitious goal to raise $1,000 to grant wishes to 100 children on the spectrum by December 1, 2020. This would allow us to gift each of those children a much needed sensory or therapeutic item off of their wishlist just in time for the holidays.

Any funding provided beyond the original $1,000 goal will go directly towards supporting AutismWish.

Other Ways You Can Help
If you would like to support a child directly, you can sign up to become a Hero.  Heroes are matched with specific children and can grant wishes directly from their Amazon wishlist, please go to our website and apply to be a Hero at www.autismwish.com/grant-a-wish

Who We Are
AutismWish is a small family-created initiative aimed at supporting autistic children in the community.  As a mother of a child on the autism spectrum I found that although there are many children diagnosed with ASD, there are very few readily available resources to get the children the tools they need to succeed at home. For many children on the spectrum, there are not only sensory and social delays but also additional comorbidities to include fine motor and gross motor delays, feeding aversions and difficulties, behavioral and attentional struggles, difficulties with changes in routine, and many more.

How We Work
AutismWish allows parents of autistic children (or Wishers) to create and submit Amazon Wishlists specifically tailored to their child's sensory or therapeutic needs.  These may include particular toys or items geared towards supporting autistic children. Once the wishlists have been approved and submitted, we pair the Wishers with charitable donors (Heroes) who select items from their Amazon Wishlist to fulfill.  Heroes like you provide the child with at-home access to therapeutic items that can help them develop their skills or provide sensory regulation. By granting these children the tools they need at home, you not only directly support their development but will also help provide a free at-home alternative to parents who are unable to afford or accommodate therapies for their child.
