On April 16, 2017, our son Thomas Andrew ("Andy") Williams passed away, leaving behind his three young children – our grandchildren, whom we have supported and helped raise in Virginia for more than a decade. Over the years, Andy encouraged us to maintain strong relationships with each of his three young children.
We have witnessed and been a part of significant milestones in each child's life, such as helping to potty-train each child; we've routinely taken care of them when they were sick; and we have been there for every birthday, Christmas, Easter, and other holidays. We have had contact with the children almost every day of their lives, until now.
Since Andy's death, we and his entire extended family have been permitted little to no contact with his children despite many failed attempts to see and reach them. If this continues, we fear they will lose memories of their beloved father, and they will miss out on the love Andy's family has for them.
Thus we have been pursuing legal action to maintain and strengthen our relationships with our grandchildren, and ensure they are not cut off from Andy's family forever. We are on a long, difficult journey of filings and appeals, and we ask that you support us with your thoughts, prayers, and guidance – and with any contributions you can provide to support our legal proceedings.
Specifically, your contributions will help us to continue building a case for grandparent visitation. All donated funds will be used solely to defray attorneys’ fees and other costs related to legal representation.
We strongly believe grandparents have rights, and we know we are not alone. Grandparents across the country play an important role in the lives of their grandchildren. We hope that our case motivates others who are struggling to see their family members.
We are so truly grateful for your support after Andy's death and through this very difficult time. We miss him dearly, and we know he would want us to be a part of his children's lives.
