Graham's Heart Journey

Graham was born May 26, 2015 with third-degree congenital heart block and received his first pacemaker when he was only 2 weeks old. The surgery was a success, and Graham grew to be a very energetic toddler.  People often describe him as “all boy”!

On July 28, 2017, at 2 years old, Graham underwent surgery for a new pacemaker. Almost 3 months following the surgery, we realized that something was wrong. Graham, normally very boisterous, started taking frequent breaks while playing, breathing became labored and his appetite started diminishing. 

After much observation of his unusual behavior, We scheduled an appointment for October 16, 2017. We treated this visit like any other doctor's visit, we were not expecting the news ahead. His doctor explained that he noticed the left side of his heart was not pumping, and Graham was rushed to Duke University Hospital and was admitted to the Pediatric ICU the same day. After a week of observation, doctors broke the news to us that Graham would need a heart transplant.

Graham will remain in Duke’s Pediatric ICU to await a heart transplant. He is in good spirits, and  we are continuing to trust and believe in God that he will provide Graham with a strong heart.

We are asking for help to cover medical expenses for before, during, and after Graham’s transplant surgery as well as with food, gas, lodging and other necessities not covered by insurance. Also, my husband and I both work full-time, and are fortunate to have such a great support system which allows us to do so. We are asking for help with car maintenance so we are able to travel back and forth from Fayetteville to Durham.
