Grace Bay Resorts Employee COVID-19 Fund

Throughout the evening beginning September 7, the Turks & Caicos Islands were pummeled by Hurricane Irma, a category 5 hurricane stronger than any other to have hit the Islands in recorded history. The storm caused flooding and damage throughout the Islands, including on Grace Bay Resorts' home island of Providenciales.
This fund has been established by Grace Bay Resorts and will benefit members of the Grace Bay Club, West Bay Club and Private Villa Collection teams in Turks & Caicos who have been impacted by Hurricane Irma, as outlined below. Our management and HR leaders have been compiling information and sifting through the data to ensure we help those members of our team who are most in need. In this effort, our team has visited the homes of those staff who appear to have suffered the most damage and together we have been working through a series of options to address this challenge.
We have three different types of situations which we are addressing:
Staff with homes that have been completely destroyed and are without any reliable housing now: This currently stands at 35 persons (staff members and their families). In this instance we are urgently seeking a building or other facility to temporarily house the staff.
Once we have addressed the immediate need of temporary housing, we will be putting in place a grant program for those staff to enable them to begin rebuilding. If needed, the grant will be offered together with a loan from Grace Bay Resorts that will be paid over an extended period of time, interest free.
Staff who have had serious damage to roofs or who have lost the roof to their own home: This currently stands at 7 staff members’ homes. We have already initiated a repair program, led by our HR team and our in-house roofing contractor. The assessments are complete and we are securing the needed materials now.
Staff who are renting and who have roof damage, but are reliant on their landlord to fix their property: This currently stands at 9 persons (staff and family). We are currently trying to find alternate accommodation for these staff while their properties are repaired. Grace Bay Resorts will offer a grant (or interest-free loan, if needed) to ensure these staff have a home to live in.
All funds raised will be withdrawn by The Bodhi Tree Foundation in the United States--a foundation sponsored and run by Grace Bay Resort's U.S. representation organizaton J.G. Black Book--and transferred via wire to Grace Bay Resorts' Turks and Caicos Islands operations. Grace Bay Resorts human resources and executive team will then disperse the funds to affected staff as outlined above.
