GR8DI Summer Internships

It’s been a while since I’ve asked y’all for money. As you may remember from our last campaign, we have been helping students in Buea, Cameroon to learn Groovy and Grails. The classes have been successful and the students are learning a lot.
However, recent political tensions between the English and French-speaking regions have caused instability and violence in the town where the University is. Therefore, now that the semester is over, many of the students have fled Buea and returned to their homes or other major cities in Cameroon. Some of the students will follow the teacher, Fosso Arcel(@Kraulain), to nearby Yaounde.
To finish their university degree, the students are required to complete a 2-month internship at a local company. But, with the crisis in Buea, many companies have also moved and cancelled their internship programs. There are about 10 students in the program who fit into this category. As a solution, Fosso Arcel will mentor 4 students who will work on the GR8DI website. The university has already agreed that this would meet the requirements for their degree program and we hope to start the first intern in early to mid-August (pending funding).
To make this 2-month program possible, we need funds to pay for an office for the students to work and a very small stipend (only about $30 per month) to pay for the room and board of the 4 interns.
The breakdown of costs for the entire two-month program is as follows:
- Stipends for Students ($300 including money transfer fees)
- Workspace in Yaounde ($600 including the estimate for electricity and internet)
Any additional funds raised will go to provide more students with internships until we reach 10 and then to increase the wages for the students.
