Gr8 Eight Goes To Haiti

Tax deductible
Gr8 Eight is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that combines travel with addressing the needs of local communities around the world through advocacy, education, and empowerment. Last year, Gr8 Eight organized a book drive to help stock a newly built library in Kingston, Jamaica, donated 3 barrels full of sanitation items to be distributed to orphanages as well as textbooks for schools in Haiti, solicited donations and toiletries to send to the Harvey Victims in Beaumont, Texas, and partnered with the Madison Square Garden Boys and Girls Club in New York for their annual holiday drive.

One of our current and ongoing initiatives is to bring a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals (i.e. speech, occupational, and physical therapists) medical professionals,  special education teachers and psychologists to schools to assist us in both the schools and orphanages. When visiting schools, we provide professional development to teachers with a focus on inclusion in the classroom. Our affiliated orphanages care for children with physical and cognitive impairments; there, we provide hands-on support, educate the caregivers, and model therapy techniques and ways to take data in order to monitor progress and ultimate create sustainability. I've attached a document that provides more information on the work we do there.

In order to provide a multidisciplinary team to meet our children's needs in Haiti, we continuously seek the expertise of experienced allied health professional such as, but not limited to occupational, physical and speech therapists, audiologists, social workers, and nurses in addition to special education and regular education teachers. If you know of anyone who would be interested in joining us on future trips, please encourage them to email us their resume so that suggest a trip in order to maximize their impact level based on clinical experience. We prefer our medically based volunteers to focus their expertise in the orphanages to improve quality of life, where it is most needed, as opposed to a school where we educate teachers on how to identify students with learning impairments.

Your donation will cover expenses to include but not limited to the following:

Supplies for our children at the orphanage (i.e cushion for wheelchairs, ankle weights, elastic bandages, splints, etc.)

Materials to create picture exchange communication boards (i.e. laminating sheets, laminator, velcro, color and black ink, printer,  binders, etc.)

Bringing knowledgeable and experienced allied health professionals and medical professionals to work with severely disabled children (i.e. speech, occupational, and physical therapists, special education teachers, mental health professionals, nurses, etc.)

Sanitary and hygiene items ( i.e. toothbrushes, toothpaste, gloves, face masks, wipes, baby powder, etc.)

School supplies (i.e. gently used textbooks, writing utensils, art supplies, hand sanitizer, etc)
