Let's Give Christine a Helping Hand

On this day before Thanksgiving, our dear sister Christine Kung ascended this afternoon at 3:45 pm to return to her heavenly Home.

We celebrate her victorious life as a precious daughter, wife and mother of a Blessed Central Family

The Kung family have dedicated themselves to serving the church community in New York for many years, but now there is a large financial burden to take care of her medical bills and Seong Hwa

The Kungs are always the first people to help others, so we in the church community have gathered to help Christine.

If you feel called to make an offering at this time, we thank you for your generous help

Here is a short biography of Christine.

Christine Washburn Kung was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Her father, Seth Washburn, was a professor and inventor, and her mother, Ruby Washburn, was a teacher. Her father's major invention was dot matrix, a system of using dots to make pictures with the computer. She has two brothers, Tim and Edward, and a sister, Cozette.

Christine graduated from Lewisburg, NC High School and attended Lewisburg Junior College. She met the Unification Church at age 18 in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was glad to meet the church because she felt that she would have no more Chapter 2 trouble because brothers and sisters felt like real brothers and sisters who would not take advantage of anyone.

Christine went to New York City to join the IOWC and traveled with the group to Japan twice in 1975. She then joined the New Hope Singers, after auditioning in front of True Father, and sang with them at the Yankee Stadium and Washington Monument Rallies. She spent 5 years with the New Hope Singers, traveling around the country singing at various events, and fundraising.

Christine and John Kung were blessed in 1982 at Madison Square Garden. At the time Christine was part of the staff of Unification Church International under Dr. Bo Hi Pak in McLean, Virginia. After the blessing, she went to Korea with Seilo Machinery. She was part of the Little Angels School staff in Korea for a year and a half, in the area of interior design, doing plastic molding. She had been a member of the crew that created the plaster moldings for the New Yorker Hotel Ballroom.

Christine and John started their family in Chicago and came to Flushing, NY, John’s hometown, in 1987 during the home church providence. Thirty of John’s relatives live in Flushing. Their daughter, Diane Joong Mi, was born in 1989. Since 1987 John has been a local church pastor, first in Flushing, then in Brooklyn. He and Christine are currently back in Flushing where John is the pastor.

Christine went to the Ukraine for 21 days in 1992 to assist with the Divine Principle workshops for professors and students under the direction of Dr. Seuk. Christine has been to Cheongpyeong numerous times and participated in the witnessing effort for the hometown providence in Korea in 2003. She speaks some Japanese and Korean and she can sing Korean songs. Christine loves everything regarding the Unification Church.

Their daughter Diane was blessed in 2010 to Young Jeon. John and Christine now have two grandchildren, Taebin and Yoobin.
