On August 25, 2015, Imad Alasmar, a hard working man and devoted husband and father of ten children, was fatally shot in his taxi cab during what was supposed to be a routine pick up. The motive for the shooting is currently under investigation, but it is believed that his death may have been the result of a robbery.
Imad, originally from Jordan, came to the United States in 1990 to make a better life for himself and his family. In Jordan, he worked as a high school English teacher, but after arriving in the U.S. he began working as a taxi driver, then for 7-Eleven and QuickChek convenience stores, and within the past several years he returned to work as a taxi driver because he enjoyed driving around and meeting new people. He had been working for Station Cab, Inc. for just 3.5 years when he was killed after being dispatched to a pick up on Bedford Street in Rahway, NJ.
The Alasmar family is made up of Imad's wife, Ibtesam, and their ten children ranging in age from 8 to 22 years old. They live in Edison, NJ and are understandably in shock and grieving over the unexpected and horrific loss of their father.
We are a group of teachers and guidance counselors who have taught and worked with many of the Alasmar children in Edison and we are hoping to raise funds to help the family during this tragic time. We are aware that other GoFundMe pages have been set up, but because we're not familiar with the creators of the pages (though they may be legitimate), we decided to create our own page to ensure the money we collect and donate gets to the family.
