Van for Jo-Ann

My name is Jo-Ann Roy.  I was diagnosed with MS in 1989 and at the time was still ambulatory.  In January of 2001, I had a severe attack and was no longer able to walk.  For the next 3 months with the assistance of physical and occupational therapy we tried to get the ambulation back but we're unsuccessful.  In order to go back to work and maintain a sense of independence I had to purchase a wheelchair accessible van.  With the help of the State I was able to secure a low interest loan for the vehicle.  The Department of Rehabilitation provided the money for the modifications to the vehicle.  The total cost was $41000.00.

I had created this GO FUND ME page 2 years ago in an attempt to get some financial assistance to purchase a wheelchar accessible van. While I was only able to secure 1500.00 this sum fell far short of the need. Although what I received was much appreciated,  I am now in a position where I  will be responsible for the monthly payments of $611.00. Unfortunately this is a sum which I cannot cover because of other household responsibilities.

I have  worked all my life and was meticulous with paying bills to avoid bad credit. I am now in a position where I will have to give up the van but will now become a credit risk. This is a situation which I have no control of.  I  currently live on a monthly SSDI check which barely covers household expensives.

All funds which are donated will be used to make the monthly payments until I am able  to sell it.  Once I sell it at a loss I will use any remaining funds toward a down payment for a used van with manageable monthly payments.

In an effort to get assistance I have contacted State agencies, Federal grants, and any other local, state, and federal agencies which would know of any funding sources. All of these contacts were unsuccessful.

My last plea is to envision yourself not being able to go out grocery shopping, or a casual lunch, dinner, a movie, to church which I attend every Wednesday and Sunday night, or for a ride just to change the scenery . I realize there are other  worthy causes, but this for me fosters my independence. Without it I will be restricted to my home.

Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. No matter how small.
