Just one day after welcoming her second son into the world, Hannah noticed a lump on her leg. After visiting a general surgeon in July to have it checked the lump was initially identified as lipoma (fatty tissue mass), and she was scheduled for surgery in early September to have it removed. What seemed to be an easy fix and nothing to worry about, turned out to be something that would mark Hannah's life forever.

Once Hannah was in surgery the surgeon was able to visibly see the tumor and he immediately knew it was cancerous. A biopsy was performed, and the incision was closed with the tumor untouched. Due to Covid restrictions Hannah was alone in recovery when she received the devastating news that she had cancer.
She was referred to a team of doctors to discuss the plan of treatment. Scans were performed to determine the type and size of the tumor, and also if it had spread. The tumor was identified as stage 2 liposarcoma and measured at 13 cm long, 9 cm wide,  and 6 cm deep. Thankfully, it was determined that there was no spread.
Hannah began radiation in October, which included 25 treatments 5 days a week for 5 weeks.  After completing radiation more scans were performed to restage the tumor and plan for surgery. She was given a month off from treatment to allow her body to rest and her skin to heal from the radiation.
On December 15th Hannah had an extensive surgery lasting 12 hours. Due to the location and complexity of the tumor the surgery required 3 different surgeons to remove the tumor, do a bypass of the artery, and reconstruct the area of her leg where the tumor was located. The following day she underwent an unexpected surgery that was required to correct some of the reconstruction that was beginning to fail.
Four days after her initial surgery Hannah was released from the hospital with 3 drains in her leg, and unable to walk. Her family became her support, coming together to care for her and also her 3 year old and 6 month old sons. While at home she received treatment from a home health nurse to care for her wounds, some of which were still open. She endured another outpatient procedure on the 21st to work on part of the reconstruction and to close the open wounds. During the last week of December, once all of the incisions were closed, Hannah did five treatments in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber to help with healing.
At the end of January, Hannah was finally able to bear weight on her leg and began physical therapy, which she still receives twice a week. A few weeks after starting physical therapy her leg began to swell so she was sent to have an MRI which showed she had two pockets of fluid. Hannah underwent another outpatient procedure where they drained the fluid and did a biopsy to make sure it wasn't a reoccurrence of cancer. Thankfully, the biopsy was negative and the procedure seemed to have worked. However, by mid February she had swelling in her toes and foot and was experiencing extreme pain. They performed an ultrasound which determined that the pain and swelling were a result of the artery bypass closing up due to scar tissue. Again, Hannah underwent another surgery to place a stint and reopen the artery.
Immediately following that surgery she began lymphedema therapy to work on getting the swelling out of her leg, which she continues to receive twice a week.

During the course of Hannah’s journey she was unable to teach, and all of her PTO had been used for her maternity leave after having her youngest son. Because she didn't have any days left to use, her pay was cut. Her husband Alex, a dedicated police officer, picked up extra work on his days off to help cover expenses. While Hannah does have medical insurance, she is still responsible for her out of pocket expenses. Her cut in pay along with the cost of medical expenses has placed a financial burden on the Deahl family. This gofundme has been created to help ease that burden for them so that they can focus on Hannah's continued therapy and healing without the added stress of finances. Thank you so much for prayerfully considering donating to this amazing family.

Despite everything that Hannah and her family have endured, her faith has never wavered. Her trust and strength in the Lord has only grown stronger and this trial has become a testimony of God's faithfulness.  Through it all, Hannah has professed Father's goodness and love and continues to grow in His strength everyday.  More than anything they ask for your continued prayers for healing and that God's glory to be made known through her story.
