Students with Low Vision Ski Trip

Donation protected
We are The Visioneers:
Experiential Learning Opportunities for Students with Visual Impairments.

We are seeking $2,000 in donations for low-income students with visual impairments and their families to attend an adaptive ski trip. This money will be used to provide scholarships for students and family members who require financial assistance in order to participate. The trip cost includes: transportation, 2 nights of cabin lodging, adaptive cross-country ski lesson from guides who are trained to work with people who have disabilities, adaptive ski equipment, an environmental education hike at Big Trees State Park, and all meals. This trip is booked through Environmental Travel Companions. For more information about this organization click or visit: http://etctrips.org/

                   NO DONATIONS ARE TOO SMALL!

***Any donations above the cost of this trip will go towards scholarships for future Visioneer expeditions***

The testimonials of those who have gone on similar trips say more than we could ever express on their behalves:

“My daughter cannot stop talking about her trip.  She keeps saying ‘why couldn’t we stay longer?’  She had so much fun.  I think a lot of lives were changed and life long memories were made.  It is amazing how such a wonderful trip like this changes your life forever.  It truly was fantastic.”                                                                                                        -Rebecca Albarran (Parent of a student with a visual impairment)

Santa Cruz County qualifies as a low-income area and the students for whom we are requesting donations do not have the financial means to access these invaluable experiences. In addition, many of the students we serve are the only visually impaired individuals in their school communities.  This trip will provide an opportunity for these students to develop meaningful connections with their peers.  This adaptive cross country ski trip will enable participants to access the wilderness while promoting the development of an environmental stewardship ethic. It will also provide hands-on learning experiences including social, living, and self-advocacy skills.

Our final deposit for this trip is due by the end of February 2016 so please submit your donations no later that February 15th.

We cannot thank you enough for affording us this opportunity!
