Malaysian Gibbons need your help

As a newly formed Gibbon NGO based in Malaysia and one of the only proactive female Malaysian woman leaders speaking against illegal gibbon pet trade, I am seeking your urgent help to raise $1,300 AUD for this International Gibbon Day this 24th October 2017.

Will you join me and my mission to make a difference?

As you can imagine, being a female in conservation, speaking out against the primate trade, is often difficult. But my passion is driving me to not give up! Even at times powerful forces knock me back, I am motivated to make a positive change in young peoples behaviour towards primates as illegal pets.

My team and I will hold two events at a prestigious local university, to educate the community about this illegal wildlife trade. The $1,300 AUD includes printing materials, PA system rental, booth rental, projector rental, conservation bag with key materials for the students and transport cost for my volunteers and I to rent a bus to get there and back.

The main objective for this event is to raise awareness amongst Malaysian teenagers whom one of the most active class using social media. The demand for illegal pet gibbons online is increasing dramatically and we need to connect with the younger influential generation, to help them make a stand against this illegal pet trade.

This is a 1st TIME GIBBON EVENT in Malaysia

We aim to develop a collaborative interest with the university, to develop a social media education program, where the students voices will speak out against the illegal primate trade and help expose and prosecute the people involved in this corrupt industry. We need to get more people to help us stop this very cruel industry.

 Will you help me?
Your donation can make a HUGE difference to this illegal trade and will help our NGO stand up, to make a stronger voice against active bodies trying to beat us down and silent our voice.

Malaysia is home to five species of gibbons, all of which are classified as Endangered by the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species: the Siamang, the White-handed Gibbon, the Agile Gibbon, the Muelleri Gibbon and the Abbot’s Gibbon . Due to their popularity as pets, illegal poaching to feed the black market is rampant and coupled with the continuous habitat loss, these gibbons are on the verge of extinction.

The Gibbon Protection Society Malaysia (GPSM) was established as a registered NGO in December 2016. GPSM overall goal is to carry out programs related to wildlife dives especially primates by assisting in creation of conservation effort, helping research that related on primate conservation and health by integrating individuals involved in the same field as well as raising public awareness about the importance of primate towards Malaysian ecosystem and helping authority to combat the crime of illegal wildlife trade.
