My name is Jaris Wicklund, and I am raising money for a 3rd annual Magic the Gathering event to be held in the memory of a very close friend of mine who passed away just before celebrating his 30th birthday, Steven Christopher Marshall, aka Goober.
Goober was deeply passionate about Magic, and his passion for the game radiated to everyone around him, making every Magic event he participated in better for having him in it.
A Magic tournament is the best way I can think of to memorialize his life - not only did he love the game, but he also loved to compete and match wits against people who shared the same love for the game.
Our 1st and 2nd annual events have been tremendous successes, bringing together friends and family in celebration of his life and spirit. Over these two events we have raised over $1800 for Child's Play , and had a tremendous amount of fun in doing so.
We are holding the 3rd annual event on Sunday September 9, 2018 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. This was Goober's (and my) alma mater, the place where we met and cultivated a deep friendship.
If you are interested in playing in the event, please visit the Facebook event page for more details. Registration will be $25 for those playing in the event either in advance through this campaign or at the door, and is open to all.
Any contributions would be tremendously appreciated. They will be put towards purchasing supplies for the event, including food for the attendees and prizes that will help attract people that want to play in a fun, competitive environment. Any excess funds will again be donated to Child's Play , a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in their network of over 100 hospitals worldwide.
