Oscar is a 65 year old husband, father, grandfather and Veteran of the US Army who is #SoldieringOn in a battle against an aggressive lung disease called Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis (HP) - officially diagnosed in 2016 after a couple of incorrect diagnoses going back to 2002.
In May 2017, a bout of pneumonia sent everything into a spiral. He was in the ICU for several weeks, where we nearly lost him. Two hospitalizations later, testing indicated that his lung capacity and pulmonary function had declined permanently to less than 35%. His lungs would never be the same.
In late 2017, after being told that the life expectancy (without transplant) would be about two years, it was clear that it was time to work on getting listed for transplant in Denver.
As of early February 2018, he is listed! And he’s listed at #1, which means he could get the call for lungs at any time now.
And now we wait. Though active and full of life, his body has simply not kept up. The opportunity of new lungs will renew his physical ability over time but most-certainly depletes his financial reserves. Due to his continued medical needs the family finances have taken a hard hit that Oscar's meager military pension can not cover.
With your help, Oscar can finally get his lungs and return to an active, fulfilling life with his family.
