GONE TOO SOON, THE LASHER FAMILY

While most consider me heartless, I’ve always been a sucker for a good love story. The type of tale that brings a sigh to your lips, and a Krispy Kreme glaze to your eyes. A real love story--not just a piece of fiction from a movie. Kelly and Scott have always been “that love story” couple for me.
These two met about 10 years ago, and it was love. Literally. They eloped after only a few months. Most think that’s crazy, but 9 years and 3 children later, they still “loved with a love more than love.” A love that many people admired, and wished they could find.
Over 9 years of marriage, this couple has experienced their tragedies. In 2009, their first child, Vivien, was born “clinically dead” and required extensive resuscitation. The doctors could not guarantee she would not suffer some type of brain damage. Thankfully, Viven is a happy, healthy 8 year old. In 2013, Kelly’s father passed away from cancer. Scott was her rock to get her through. 2015, Kelly’s mother, whom was very close to her, passed away unexpectedly. Again, Scott was there to love and support her during her mourning.
Fast forward to 2017. Scott began showing signs of a neurological disorder. Hand tremors, speech slurs, trouble breathing and swallowing. A rapid weight loss without even trying. Countless doctor’s appointments and tests were providing no answers. With little sick time, Scott was forced to continue working, because like many men, he was the main financial supporter for his wife and three beautiful children.
November 3, 2017, Scott turned 37. Kelly posted her happy birthday to her husband and how she feared it would be his last. Kelly told her friends how Scott could no longer hold their baby, his tremors had gotten so bad. The morning of November 11, 2017, Kelly found the love of her life on the floor, unresponsive. She performed CPR but no change. EMS arrived and nothing. Scott, Kelly’s best friend through 9 years of marriage, was gone.
Scott was a devoted husband and father. Before his health issues, his children loved to watch their dad play hockey--one of Scott’s favorite hobbies. Reptiles were another favorite past time. His passion for education and understanding of reptiles was contagious; you couldn’t help but listen to him. Lego models of Scott’s creation fill their home.
His three children, Vivien (8), Eowyn (6 in December) and Wolfgang (1), now have to grow up without him. Kelly is now a wife without her husband. This time, this tragedy is her rock. When the dust settles, Kelly will be forced to step back into the real world of living with 3 small children; school, daycare, a mortgage. Three things that are hard enough for a couple, let alone a now widowed mother.
Scott, like many of us in our 30s, didn’t think much of having life insurance. Soon that realization will hit her--along with bills. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, money is tight for everyone. Anyone that can help, it would be greatly appreciated. If you can’t donate, please share. Let’s try and help Kelly at least make it through the next few months, and bring a little joy to a now minus one family.
