He's a father, a brother, a son, and an uncle...
My dad just turned 40 this past Valentine's Day, and has always been one to avoid illness. Although, he had recently started complaining about not feeling very well. He described his everyday struggle as feeling fatigued and weak. He was also experiencing headaches, shortness of breath, explained that the simplest exertion of energy made his heart racy. After visiting a doctor, he was told that he was just experiencing stress, but he wasn't convinced that that was all it was so he took it upon himself to go to a hospital. In the emergency room of Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, blood work was taken and doctors said he was simply in need of a blood transfusion due to the fact that he was anemic. Subsequently, his blood levels weren't where the doctors were expecting them to be after the blood transfusions, so further tests were taken. Following the tests, my dad was just diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on March 6, 2017. As you can assume, our family has been greatly affected by this recent news.
With this diagnosis, he is in need of a stem cell transplant. Until he is able to receive the transplant, my dad will be remaining in the hospital. If he were able to come home, it would be three weeks after undergoing chemo treatment. Prior to receiving chemo treatment, my dad is required to take oral pills in order to ensure that his health remains well during the chemo. Insurance for my father's medical costs/treatments is not acquirable at this time, this is why we need YOUR help.
Due to my dad's absence from home, at work, and the absence of the chemo treatment, he has not been able to financially provide for his family of five. Life still goes on, bills will continue coming in, and only one source of minimum wage income isn't sufficient for a family of five.
